Nuclear Medicine Technologist (up to 19 hrs/wk)
MAJOR DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS:
- Verifies the requisition/chart for valid written order, priority, date, ordering comments, physician’s notes, precautions and patient consent forms.
- Communicates effectively with patients and prepares them for Nuclear Medicine procedures by accurately assessing patient’s needs and providing education to patient and/or patient’s family (as appropriate) regarding the tests to be performed and assesses the patient’s ability to tolerate exam (See attached age-specific addendum)
- Knowledgeable on proper Nuclear Medicine technology techniques, including selecting the appropriate technical factors on an individual basis and understanding human anatomy well enough to consistently obtain the correct images.
- Performs the duties associated with the operation of the Nuclear pharmacy and maintains ALARA when handling radiation at all times.
- Calculates, orders, prepares and administers correct dosage of radio-pharmaceuticals and nonradioactive pharmaceuticals within the scope of practice and under the discretion of the supervising physician
- Operates computer and nuclear medicine equipment for data acquisition, reconstruction of images, documentation of images, and performs quality control measures for the purpose of ensuring optimal quality images.
- Processes nuclear medicine images for interpretation by Nuclear Medicine physician.
- Complies with billing policy by entering accurate charges for procedures and supplies used.
- Tracks imaging studies to complete in the appropriate Radiology Information System with the appropriate documentation for images obtained and forwards images via PACS or Workstation to the supervision physician for interpretation in a timely manner.
- Practices accurate and timely completion of scheduled and unscheduled work to maximize productivity.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, policies, EOC and state regulations.
- Independently able to start IV as needed for any Nuclear Medicine studies.
- Participates in research projects when needed.
- Instructs students on clinical nuclear medicine skills and monitors and trains them in all areas of current competencies.
- Assists in the orientation and training of new staff members.
- Practices accurate and timely completion of scheduled and unscheduled work to maximize productivity.
- Instructs students on clinical nuclear medicine skills.
- Applies the profession’s code of ethics in all aspects of practice.
- Performs other related duties as required.
