Certified Hyperbaric Technologist Coordinator - Hyperbaric Medicine
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in related area
- Five (5) years of related experience in Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine
- Completed an approved Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) or National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology (NBDHMT), or Department of Defense introductory course in hyperbaric oxygen team operations
- Complete initial/annual skills check lists as required by the facility
- Safe Director Training Course completion (will be required if not already completed within 12 months of employment)
- Hyperbaric Chambers Acrylics Course training
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS OR CERTIFICATIONS
- Maintain current certification as a Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) by the NBDHMT.
- Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, Infection Control, clinic and safety competencies as required by the institution.
- Must obtain Acute Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within first 90 days of employment if not already certified
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Medical Director of the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine Clinic, the Certified Hyperbaric Technologist Coordinator will oversee daily hyperbaric operations, mechanical maintenance of hyperbaric chamber equipment, coordinate hyperbaric and technical duties performed by the Certified Hyperbaric Technologist, and provide leadership to CHT in manager’s absence.
Job Duties:
- Assists in the daily hyperbaric operations, responsible for chamber operation, patient safety during hyperbaric oxygen treatment and uses approved and recognized decompression procedures for all persons with hyperbaric exposure to inert gases.
- In charge of all hyperbaric equipment and gasses, interprets and thoroughly understands meter readings in relationship to pressure.
- Maintains complete and accurate patient records pertaining to hyperbaric oxygen treatments including any and all correspondence with patients.
- Assists the healthcare team by preparing patients, chaperoning during examination procedures, assists with patient arrival, treatments, discharge, line-up, shutdown, and all other operations procedures.
- Accurately preforms Point of Care Testing and collects other lab specimens including bloodwork as needed.
- Oversees the daily operation of the department and performs duties and procedures as directed by the Nurse Manager and / or Medical Director.
- Coordinates the duties/responsibilities of the CHT staff, provides working oversight and mentoring to CHTs as directed by Nurse Manager and/or Medical Director.
- Coordinates and monitors work processes and patient flow in treatment area. Discusses technical problems with Nurse Manager and/or Medical Director to suggest corrections and/or solutions.
- Acts as Hyperbaric Safety Director of the hyperbaric oxygen therapy facility with duties and responsibilities as designated and delineated by the National Fire Protection Association
- Maintain the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy facility in compliance with national, state, and local regulatory agency codes and standards
- Ensures department compliance with NFPA 99 and coordinates safety drills as required by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the University, and as recommended by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society
- Assists Medical Director, to determine, assess, and revise safety and technical protocols to be implemented, practiced, and documented in written guidelines: Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Facility Operations Manual
- Reviews all department safety incidents, collects information regarding equipment / patient safety, - Reports any errors or patient related incidences to Nurse Manager and /or Medical Director.
- Performs mechanical maintenance of the hyperbaric chambers within incumbent’s scope, training, and experience, in conjunction with and under the direction of the manufacturer of the hyperbaric chamber
- Oversees the maintenance of the daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual logs as recommended by the manufacturer and facility policies and procedures
- Trains new CHT staff and ancillary staff who will have duties associated with the hyperbaric oxygen therapy operations
- Participates in development of program’s policies and procedures.
- Implements and maintains a comprehensive quality assurance program. Ensuring that patient scheduling, treatment, record keeping, calculations, and machine functions are maintained at an optimal level.
- Assists Medical Director in overseeing the assessment of new and existing materials and devices for safe and appropriate use in and around hyperbaric oxygen chambers, and provides written documentation of final determination of the safe use of such items
- Adheres to internal quality controls, policies, and procedures established by UTMB and the department.
Salary Range: Actual salary commensurate with experience.
Work Schedule:
On-site, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, and as needed on occasion.
