Assistant Director of Financial Literacy and Wellness, Enrollment Services - State (Onsite)
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years related supervisory experience in a financial or higher education institution.
Job Summary:
Responsible for the daily operations of the Student Accounts department. Perform complex financial processes and analysis on the assessment and collection or tuition and fees for all UTMB students. Provide supervisory guidance in a fiscal group of the Medical Branch.
Job Duties:
- Provide complex support in maintaining and improving medical student satisfaction with the service quality of financial assistance and debt management.
- Coordinate, implement, supervise, and exercise functional authority for planning, organization, integration, and completion of projects and presentations related to financial literacy and wellness.
- Analyze and monitor trends and developments in financial literacy to identify best practices that will enhance the university's program and develop and incorporate changes as they are identified.
- Develop and integrate a financial literacy and wellness component into websites and other communication outlets to provide sources of comprehensive financial literacy and consumer information in compliance with the federal and university regulations.
- Address issues and concerns, coordinate events, distribute informational materials, and advertise services and online tools available to students seeking assistance with financial planning and management.
- Provide one-on-one counseling of students regarding financial aid, developing personal budgets, financial planning, financing their education and strategies for paying tuition. One-on-one financial aid counseling with prospective students and parents regarding financial aid and available financial aid options.
- Assist with financial aid processing, including monitoring output, verifying applicant eligibility and resolving eligibility issues. Review and resolve financial aid files. Award state, university, and federal financial aid funds to students. Review special circumstance appeals and counsel students on appeal outcomes.
- Coordinate and conduct all entrance and exit counseling and first-time borrower workshops. Collaborate with school to ensure all student borrowers receive mandatory loan counseling prior to graduation.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong knowledge and ability to work with financial applications and processes.
- A seasoned incumbent with strengths in education administration and management.
Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills including a high degree of professionalism and competence in dealing with multiple constituencies (e.g., medical school leadership, faculty peers, support staff, students, etc.) - Supervisory and management skills sufficient to effectively facilitate interactions among senior leadership colleagues, faculty and staff that lead to the development, prioritization, and accomplishment of goals.
- Ability to lead effectively in a complex environment comprised of multiple constituencies.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully manage, mentor and motivate direct reports.
- Ability to analyze and evaluate data and make appropriate decisions/recommendations.
- Demonstrated ability to creatively and innovatively approach problem-solving.
- Ability to be attentive to the details of daily operations while understanding the importance of proper delegation.
- Active participation on committees and in meetings and effective follow-through.
- Ability to make presentations to individuals and groups of various sizes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or 5+ years of experience in a higher education financial aid, student accounts, or registrar’s office. Certified Personal Finance Counselor Certification (CPFC) or willingness to obtain certification.
Salary Range:
Commensurate with experience.
