Vice President & Chief Physician Executive
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
MD is required. Significant academic, clinical and administrative experience in a university health science center or comparable organization, preferably at the ladder rank of an associate professor academically and in a board-certified capacity clinically, with a demonstrated understanding of all elements of practice plan management and health care delivery, including strategy, business planning, operations and finance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in business, healthcare or health administration related discipline.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated experience in strategy development and business planning, long range financial planning, budgeting and financial reporting in a complex, highly competitive health care marketplace.
- Current and extensive knowledge and experience at the senior managerial level in the application of financial and clinical information systems.
- Knowledge of federal and state health services regulations, and standards emanating from Medicare and Medicaid, third party payers, and other external agencies and businesses.
- Knowledge of issues and challenges facing the clinical, education and research elements of UTMB with a full understanding of and ability to respond effectively to elements that drive competitive advantage under dynamic conditions, such as health care industry changes, competitor actions, legal/regulatory changes and technological trends.
- Knowledge and reasonable experience in establishing and/or developing productive relationships with physician groups, third party payers, employers, and other healthcare entities such as HMOs, PPOs, PHOs, and community clinics.
- Knowledge of case management/resource utilization programs, patient treatment protocols, and other initiatives used to improve physician and hospital performance.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in the implementation of clinical quality assurance, utilization review, and risk management programs.
- Good understanding of physician incentives and compensation methods, preferably with a record of accomplishment of building physician support.
- Understanding of key system integration issues with an ability to accomplish results and effectively integrate functions across units amid competing priorities in a complex multi-mission organization. Consistent ability to demonstrate and encourage a commitment to quality, customer-centeredness, productivity and continuous improvement.
- Understanding of the approaches and methods of process improvement, including planning, setting priorities, systematic performance assessment, implementation, and ongoing monitoring to continue improvement.
- Understanding of health care reform and structures associated with health care reform, such as Patient Centered Medical Home, Accountable Care, and others.
