Sr. Web Design & Development Specialist - Office of Academic Affairs
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in digital media/web development, communications, design or a related field five years of web/digital development experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience relevant to the role may be considered for this position.
Job Summary:
The Senior Web Design and Development Specialist guides and oversees the design, development and deployment of university websites and other digital channels. The senior design and development specialist collaborates extensively with a web content specialist and university IT professionals to develop and deploy strategies, tools and resources to aid the institution in fulfilling its mission of service to multiple constituents via the internet. In addition, this role supports growth and enhancements to the university’s digital infrastructure through training, teaching and exploring innovative new solutions. The successful candidate will possess excellent technical and organizational skills and be able to communicate effectively and guide others.
Job Duties:
- This position works primarily with the John Sealy School of Medicine Office of Academic Affairs and affiliated departments supporting the MD and PAS educational programs.
- Designs, builds and helps maintain university websites, working collaboratively across UTMB’s four mission areas and the institutional branding and design team to deploy a consistent visual aesthetic for all web properties.
- Provides advanced website development and maintenance support using the university's content management system.
- Conceptualizes and manages the information architecture for web projects through the creation of wireframes and mockups and organizes the pages and content of a web property for an optimal user experience
- Supports content management system users by providing guidance on how best to use the system, and teaches related website strategy/skills to stakeholders and content editors. In addition, generates web-related training material as needed, and provides technical support to web CMS users.
- Understands and helps drive compliance with federal and state regulations (i.e. accessible design), good design principles (UX/UI), and UTMB brand standards and best practices.
- Creates websites for the Office of Academic Affairs (AA) and all associated departments and supports those websites and other sites across the institution with regular maintenance and updates.
- Creates, manages, and regularly updates social media sites and implements strategies for the JSSOM MD and PAS programs. This includes creating engaging content, monitoring analytics, and ensuring alignment with institutional branding and communication goals.
- Develops and implements social media campaigns to promote the programs, events, and milestones of the JSSOM MD and PAS programs, collaborating with the Office of Academic Affairs, affiliated departments, and external stakeholders
- Serves as a liaison between website owners and IT, facilitating the appropriate use tools such as UTMB’s QA/accessibility platform, search and analytics, digital asset library, site inventory.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong user interface design skills (wireframe and mockups)
- Graphic design and image-editing experience is a major asset.
