Min Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in scientific field or equivalent and two years related experience.

Specific Job Related Duties:

  • Assist the PI by overseeing the daily operations of the project.
  • Work with PI on overall project setup at all clinics and sites.
  • Attend training sessions on how to work with human research subjects, including how to obtain informed consent.
  • Assist PI with interviewing and training Research Nurses.
  • Train Research Nurses on how to (a) recruit and consent patients; (b) use project databases and related software; and (c) use the of State of Texas vaccine registry (ImmTrac).
  • Travel to each clinic at least monthly to meet with Research Nurses and clinic director to troubleshoot issues which may impede project success and collect study materials.
  • Order laptops and statistics software for all personnel who need it and oversee its installation.
  • Order supplies needed for project including those related to blood draws, serum processing, and sample shipping.
  • Conduct weekly meetings by teleconference with both Research Nurses and Data Manager to review study progress and address any issues.
  • Conduct regular site visits with PI to ensure procedures are followed and address challenges and barriers.
  • Together with the PI, ensure the methodology of the project remains consistent across sites and throughout the study period.
  • Enter data into project databases and verify daily.
  • Review vaccination histories from medical records and State of Texas (ImmTrac) to confirm potential participants are unvaccinated, when possible.
  • For participants who are not UTMB patients, contact participants’ primary care provider to confirm patient is unvaccinated, when possible.
  • Monitor overall progress of the project and report to PI each week.
  • Work with UTMB business office to set up reimbursements for participants; provide business office with weekly updates of disbursements.
  • Schedule follow-up vaccine doses and blood draws and remind participants by phone or text.
  • Oversee frequent shipments of samples from clinics to central study freezer on UTMB Galveston campus.
  • Check central study freezer (-80degC) weekly to ensure samples stored safely.
  • Ship batches of sera to CDC per CDC protocol.
  • Ensure paper study materials such as consent forms are stored in a secure manner at the UTMB Galveston campus.
  • Ensure the sera samples are stored in a secure manner per CDC protocol on the UTMB Galveston campus.
  • Notify project personnel of upcoming meetings.
  • With assistance from the Data Manager, prepare reports for and attend all biweekly meetings

Salary Range:

Commensurate with experience

Preferred Education:

Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field plus 3 years of related experience.  Prefer candidate with strong data management experience.  Seeking an individual with strong Spanish and English speaking skills.
