Our laboratory studies proteins involved in brain function using structural biology, biochemical and biophysical techniques, in particular proteins involved in synapse formation, maintenance and plasticity. The position is well suited to a highly motivated college graduate (biochemistry, biophysics, chemistry) with one to five years previous full-time professional research laboratory experience.
Specific Job Related Duties:
Experimental duties include but are not limited to:
- Molecular biology techniques: sub-cloning, isolating and purifying DNA, PCR, mutagenesis, transforming bacterial cells, growing bacterial cultures and insect cell cultures, expressing recombinant proteins, DNA and protein gel electrophoresis;
- Biochemical techniques: purifying proteins using a variety of chromatographic methods using the Akta FPLC, binding assays, immuno-blotting;
- Biophysical techniques: fluorescence polarization, isothermal titration calorimetry
- Macromolecular crystallization
Non-experimental duties include but are not limited to:
- Interacting with and assisting (new) laboratory members;
- Working as part of a team to maintain our laboratory through ordering of lab supplies, maintenance of equipment and protocols.
Requirements: Candidates with at least one year of full-time professional experience with standard molecular biology, protein purification techniques and computer skills (WORD, EXCEL) will be considered.
