Research Associate III, Anesthesiology
Min Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in basic science or equivalent and 5 years of related experience or Master's degree in basic science or equivalent and 3 years of related experience required.
Specific Job Related Duties:
Perform research investigating novel therapeutics for critical illness.
Employee will become familiar with research protocols ongoing in the laboratory, assist in developing new research protocols, and help contribute to future direction of research.
Critical duties consist of data collection and carrying out research protocols, consisting of:
1. Major duties:
- Providing intensive care to the animals during night shift
- Making independent decision on management of animals during night shift
- Providing adequate respiratory care, i.e., mechanical ventilator calibration, adjustment and airway toilet
- Data processing, proper interpretation, and analysis based on the basic knowledge in physiology
- Training of TICU personnel for various procedures including respiratory care
2. Other duties:
- Obtaining and recording multiorgan function variables data
- Care of intravenous catheters & aseptic technique
- Operate, calibrate & troubleshoot all patient cardiovascular monitors
- Operate, calibrate & troubleshoot all patient fluid pumps
- Operate, calibrate & troubleshoot all diagnostic point-of-care machinery used in lab
- Sample collection of biological fluids, up to BSL2 level
- Analyze & interpret results; follow protocols & judgment to determine course of action in intensive-care study
- Perform tissue collection at necropsy
- Animal Care, including animal rounds to record temperature, amount of fluid consumption, administration of antibiotics, intravenous and other ordered medications, and basic evaluation of health status.
- Prepare animals for experimental protocol.
- Assist all areas of the lab such as operating rooms or necropsy as needed.
- Assist in performing radiographic procedures (X-ray) as required.
- Staff will be responsible for cleaning, organization, stocking, and maintenance of lab, lab equipment, and all areas of use.
- Disinfection and removal of biological debris after each experiment is completed, up to an ABSL-2 level. Also consists of appropriate cleaning and care of all medical equipment used.
- Taking baseline data and recording
- Perform minor procedures replacing displaced (not including vascular catheters) catheters and tubes.

Preferred Skills:
Prior experience in a research setting, prior large animal, or other animal experience. Prior ABSL2/BSL2 experience. Experience in working with biologic samples, tabulating, interpreting, and analyzing data. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with some frequency and good manual dexterity. Position also involves potential exposure to radiation and biohazards up to ABSL2/BSL2.
