Min Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in basic science, no experience required.

Specific Job Related Duties:

  • Preparing animals for surgical and other procedures.
  • Initiate and maintain the general anesthesia during the procedures
  • Record vital signs during the anesthesia period
  • Recover animals from anesthesia
  • Responsibility for operation, procedure and necropsy rooms turnovers
  • Preparing surgical trays, packs and other necessary items.
  • Laundry
  • Obtaining baseline values.
  • Recording accurate cardiovascular and multiorgan parameters
  • Operate, calibrate & troubleshoot cardiovascular monitors
  • Operate, calibrate & troubleshoot all diagnostic point-of-care machinery used in lab
  • Care of intravenous catheters & aseptic technique
  • Sample collection of biological fluids, up to ABSL2 level and proper storage
  • Analyze & interpret results; follow protocols & judgment to determine course of action in intensive-care study
  • Perform tissue collection at necropsy
  • Care of intravenous catheters & aseptic technique
  • Attend daily round and report animal conditions
  • Assist necropsy
  • Maintain supply inventory and ordering for operation, prep, procedure, and sterilization rooms
  • Animal Care, including animal rounds to record temperature, amount of fluid consumption, administration of antibiotics, intravenous and other ordered medications, and basic evaluation of health status.
  • Prepare animals for experimental protocol.  Setup, calibrate and connect cardiovascular monitoring equipment, ventilators, and other equipment as required for experiment.
  • Assist in the operating room as needed.
  • Staff will be responsible for cleaning, organization, stocking, and maintenance of lab, lab equipment, and all areas of use.
  • Disinfection and removal of biological debris after each experiment is completed, up to an ABSL-2 level.  Also consists of appropriate cleaning and care of all medical equipment used. 
  • Setup for following experiments; consisting of transducer catheters, sample tubes, and cardiovascular equipment for following experiments.
  • Performs other duties as required including organ wet-to-dry ratio measurement.

Commensurate with experience

Preferred Skills:

 Prior experience in a research setting, prior large animal, or other animal experience. Experience in working with biologic samples, tabulating, interpreting, and analyzing data.
