Professor or Associate Professor Chair, Department of Internal Medicine
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The UTMB Department of Internal Medicine is seeking a visionary Department Chair to lead a growing, ambitious, multi-site department. The Chair will oversee the quality of the department’s educational, scientific, and clinical programs, as well as provide overall leadership and management. This includes ensuring the appropriate and optimal use of human, financial, space, and other resources to successfully execute the department’s clinical, educational, and research missions. The Chair will foster an environment conducive to faculty development, education, clinical productivity, research, and the delivery of outstanding clinical care. A strong and proven commitment to care delivery, research, education, and advocacy is essential.
The next Chair will be strategic, entrepreneurial, financially astute, and a skilled, insightful steward prepared to lead the department through inevitable changes in practices and expectations. The Chair will be a dynamic recruiter of top talent, dedicated to attracting medical specialists who will contribute to the growth of subspecialty programs addressing complex cases. Additionally, the Chair will focus on attracting research talent to enhance research funding and clinical trials. Promoting a culture of stewardship and transparency across locations is key, including a commitment to managing length of stay and observation stays, improving business operations, and realigning resources as strategies and needs evolve.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree.
• Board-certified in Internal Medicine.
• Holds the rank of Professor or Associate Professor.
• Licensed or eligible for medical licensure in Texas.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Nationally recognized for scientific achievement.
• NIH-funded with a proven track record of research excellence.
• Comprehensive understanding of a medical school hospital environment.
