Infectious Disease Division Chief

Division Chief for Infectious Disease: The UTMB Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Disease is seeking a visionary Division Chief to lead a growing, ambitious, multi- site Division. The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of experience with documented leadership in two or more of the following domains: clinical care; education; or research. Candidates must also have a demonstrated record of progressive leadership and administrative experience, having the ability to lead a diverse group of faculty while overseeing existing and developing new programs. The Chief will work closely with the Department Chair of Internal Medicine to develop the strategic vision for the Division that aligns with Department and Institutional goals and objectives. The Division Chief will have the opportunity to further strengthen the clinical programs, the educational fellowship and expand research.

The UTMB Division of Infectious Diseases is a nationally and internationally recognized leader in clinical care, research, and education related to infectious and tropical diseases. Home to a diverse team of physician-scientists, educators, and Ph.D. researchers, the Division is integral to UTMB’s broader infectious disease enterprise, which includes collaborations with the Galveston National Laboratory, Center for Tropical Diseases, and Institute for Human Infections and Immunity. Faculty within the Division are deeply engaged in cutting-edge research spanning antimicrobial resistance, emerging pathogens, host-pathogen interactions, and global health. With a strong commitment to training future leaders through its accredited Infectious Diseases Fellowship and Global ID research programs, the Division plays a pivotal role in advancing science, improving patient care, and preparing for future public health challenges.
 

The UTMB Department of Medicine
The DOM is comprised of 11 Divisions including Infectious Diseases. The Department has more than 150 full-time faculty, 50 advanced practice providers, and more than 200 adjunct faculty working in the surrounding communities. The DOM includes approximately 97 residents and 87 fellows in more than a dozen specialty training programs.
 

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Provide leadership and direction in expanding clinical services within the division.
• An aptitude for collaboration, innovation, and program development.
• Must be an advocate of the University’s academic, clinical, teaching and research missions.
• Must possess effective written and oral communications skills and work well in a team environment.
 

Position Qualifications:
• M.D. or D.O. degree.
• Completion of a U.S. Internal Medicine Residency program.
• Completion of an Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program.
• U.S. Board Certification in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases.
• Possession or ability to possess an unrestricted Texas State Medical License.
