ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Postdoctoral Associate conducts research in zoonotic viral respiratory infections 
  • The candidate would work with a team of faculty, clinicians, postdoctoral professionals, graduate and undergraduate students in conducting research and training regarding zoonotic viral respiratory infections. The work involves study design, laboratory assays, and field work. 
  • Plans, directs and coordinates complex lab-based or field research following general technical procedures.
  • Gain training in and conducts laboratory work in BSL2E, BSL3E, and BSL3 laboratory spaces
  • Oversees the records of all tests performed, data collected and reviews preliminary analysis of junior staff.
  • Contributes to scientific analysis and interpretation of projects.
  • Establishes and maintains quality control measures for assigned project operations.
  • Works with Principal Investigator to formulate research plans, coordinates project activities and establishes appropriate reporting procedures.
  • Makes modifications to research procedures in collaboration with the Principal Investigator. 
  • Confers with Principal Investigator regarding results obtained and receives suggestions for modification to procedures and/or interpretation of final data.
  • Assist Principal Investigator with drafting research proposals, scientific reports and teaching scientific methods to more junior trainees.
  • Ensures the accurate assembly, calibration, operation and modification of a variety of laboratory equipment as defined by appropriate guidelines.
  • Makes minor modifications and repairs to equipment as necessary.
  • Adheres to internal controls established for department.
  • May supervise junior staff and in doing so oversees the daily activities and work assignments of more junior research staff.
  • Performs related duties as required.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Doctoral degree in the life sciences with 2 years of related experience is required.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctoral degree in life sciences
  • International applicants are welcomed
  • 2 years of experience in infectious disease research, especially virology, and experience in scientific publication. 
  • Experience in preparing proposal for human subjects and animal use ethics board reviews (IRB and IACUC).


SALARY:
Commensurate with experience.
