Library Specialist, Medical Branch Library (Onsite)
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent and three years related experience. Advanced knowledge of library operations, systems and procedures and the ability to use library software. Strong communication skills, including proficiency in grammar, spelling and punctuation. Proficiency with personal computers, including Microsoft Office products, Adobe Acrobat Reader and knowledge of testing center procedures. Some college preferred.
Job Description:
To perform paraprofessional work in fulfillment of the library’s mission. Requires advanced knowledge of the library and computer operations.
Job Duties:
- Troubleshoots access problems with the library's electronic resources using various mechanisms and modes of communication; uses cataloging and acquisitions systems to process and order print and electronic books, journal and media.
- Compiles statistical data on printer usage; testing center usage; special collections; library materials purchased and cataloged; and loaned/borrowed items.
- Assists faculty, students and coordinators with online testing software and equipment. Uses software to schedule online tests and classes in testing centers, sets up testing and training sites for use.
- Solves complex issues with computer-based testing, educational software and printing related issues.
- Handles and verifies lending requests for library materials through resource sharing systems and cooperative agreements with other libraries using various forms of software.
- Staffs the information desk to provide assistance to patrons in person, over the telephone, or online, in finding materials or answering questions by using library tools and databases.
- Opens and closes library facilities.
- Prepares cash register for opening and processes cash handling for closing.
- May supervise in the absence of Manager, Library Service.
- Works with librarians in preparing and designing class, training and display materials.
- Participates in special library projects.
- Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Salary Range:
Commensurate with experience.
