Environmental Health & Safety Technician - EHS-Occupational Safety
Minimum Qualifications:
High School graduate or GED, no experience is required.
Job Summary:
Provides basic technical assistance in the administration of policies, standards, and regulations relating to environmental health and safety under general supervision.
Job Duties:
- Performs quantitative and qualitative respirator fit testing following approved departmental procedures.
- Performs calibration of industrial hygiene and radiation detection equipment.
- Perform other Radiation & Occupational Safety functions as required, including but not limited to safety shower/ eyewash testing, chemical fume hood certifications, monthly AED inspections, safety audits, employee exposure monitoring, and job hazard analyses.
- Coordinates work duties within program areas and with contractors.
- Provides technical support on safety assignments within established time frames.
- Assists in the development and delivery of safety training programs.
- Assists in the development and implementation of new/ improved work processes.
- Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
- Performs related duties as required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Knowledge in environmental health & safety regulations.
- Ability to inspect, test, monitor, or measure safe environmental levels.
- Equipment used to inspect, test, monitor, or measure safe environmental levels.
- Ability to drive UTMB vehicles.
Working Environment:
Standard hospital, clinical, laboratory, and/or office environments. Potential exposure to hazardous conditions and/or materials. May involve strenuous activity such as walking, lifting, moving material, use of personal protective equipment such as respiratory protection and chemical-resistant clothing. May be required to pass "Basic Radiation Safety in the Laboratory" course within the first six months of employment and achieve and maintain 24- or 40-hour hazardous waste operations certification according to 29 CFR 1910 requirements within the first six months of hire.
Salary Range:
Actual salary commensurate with experience.

Eligible for unescorted access to category 1 and category 2 quantities of radioactive material based upon Trustworthiness and Reliability determination (25 TAC §289.252/10 CFR Part 37).
