Min Qualifications

 

Bachelor’s degree in basic science or equivalent and 2 years of related experience or Master’s degree in basic science or equivalent and no experience required.  Prior experience in cellular immunology and/or human blood and tissue sample processing is preferred but not required.

 

Salary Range

  From $34,560 To $43,200 Annually

 Specific Job Related Duties

  • Must display a high level of motivation and the ability to work flexibly as part of a team, as well as independently.
  • Completes all required job-specific training, education, and assessments.
  • Under supervision, is responsible for all clinical trial/clinical research laboratory requirements and day-to-day management of laboratory operations, including lab maintenance responsibilities.
  • Ensures the accurate assembly, calibration, operation and modification of laboratory equipment as defined by appropriate guidelines.
  • Oversees lab inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • In collaboration with research nurse/coordinator, reviews study protocols for tasks and processes to be carried out by laboratory personnel when working with protocol-required specimens.
  • Processes a range of human samples for storage, as well as performing cellular and analyte assays, isolation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells and plasma/serum separation for various assays, including metabolomics, transcriptomics, genomics, etc.
  • Complies with meticulous record keeping, database management and required documentation standards for all processes undertaken, as well as fully comply with requirements of Good Clinical Practices for laboratories.
  • May perform phlebotomy and other basic sample collection procedures.
  • Shipping of laboratory specimens as required by protocol and per IATA requirements.
  • Maintains laboratory inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • May perform other tasks e.g. data entry, as required, in support of clinical research/clinical trials
  • May provide guidance to other research staff.
  • Maintains laboratory environmental health and safety compliance.
  • Adheres to internal controls established for department.
  • Performs additional related duties as required

 

SKILLS:

The applicant is expected to demonstrate basic knowledge of the theory and hands-on experience in biomedical methods and have a basic understanding of laboratory data documentation. 

Computer literate, competent with Microsoft Office programs.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Standard hospital, clinical, laboratory and/or office environments. Travel to other UTMB facilities may be required.
