ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The person in this position is responsible for providing direct patient care, including surgery, consultative services, outpatient services, and care of hospitalized patients. The clinical scope of practice focuses on the spectrum of adult thoracic surgery, including lung (benign and malignant), esophageal (benign and malignant), chest wall, thoracic outlet syndrome, and hyperhidrosis. Surgical skills should include VATS, robotic experience preferred but not required. He/she participates in all teaching activities of the Department including conferences and lectures, bedside teaching, and rounds; house staff supervision in the operating room, clinics, and in-patient services; continuing medical education; and local, regional, and national meetings. UTMB has an ACGME certified 2-year Thoracic Surgery Residency program and supervision and mentoring of the Thoracic Fellows is expected. Additional trainees include medical students, surgery house staff, nursing students, and allied health students.  In addition, the person in this position will have administrative responsibilities including supervising and evaluating residents, providing medical direction, and participating in committee memberships at the Department and Health System level.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates should be a graduate of an approved medical school, have completed an approved residency training program, be Board Certified or Board Eligible (BC/BE) in Thoracic Surgery, and have a Texas Medical license without restrictions.

Commensurate with experience.
