JOB DESCRIPTION: 
The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston is recruiting an Assistant Professor (non-tenure track), Pediatric/Child Psychologist to join our mental health team. The team consists of three Psychologists, an LPC and an LCSW within the Division of Adolescent and Behavioral medicine. The division also includes a developmental/behavioral pediatrics team of a DBP pediatrician, nurse practitioner and physician assistant; and a school-based health clinic team of an adolescent medicine pediatrician, nurse practitioners, psychologist, and mental health clinicians. An Adolescent Medicine pediatrician is the division director. 


Integration of behavioral health into patient care has a long and respected history in the Department and is facilitated by mental health providers being embedded in clinic space that also includes Primary Care and Subspecialty clinics. Outpatient provision of clinical services is supported by clinic staff who schedule appointments, make reminder calls, and obtain needed clinical materials. 


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Outpatient services to be provided include:

  • Evaluation/assessment of children/adolescents and their families for a wide range of mental/behavioral health conditions including depression, anxiety, ADHD, somatic disorders, autism, effects of trauma, and emotional conditions related to medical conditions. 
  • Evidenced-based psychotherapy for children/adolescents presenting with a wide variety of psychological disorders.
  • Urgent assessment and treatment planning for patients triaged and identified as having, or at high risk for, suicidal ideation or non-suicidal self-harm behaviors. 
  • Collaboration with health care providers. 
  • All Faculty members are expected to contribute to the teaching, service, and scholarship missions of the Department. Teaching and service opportunities exist with the Pediatric Residency Program, the John Sealy School of Medicine and other schools at UTMB.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from an APA-accredited Health/Clinical Psychology or School Psychology PhD or PsyD program.  
  • Completion of an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship/residency.
  • Licensed in Texas, or license-eligible, through the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists. 
  • Three reference letters

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of an APA-accredited postdoctoral fellowship with emphasis in pediatric and/or child populations. 
  • Training/experience in a healthcare setting.

SALARY:
Commensurate with experience.
