Min Qualifications:

High School or equivalent. AALAS LATG certified or exam eligible (must successfully pass exam within 6 months of start date) and two (2) years of documented ABSL-3 animal experience and one (1) year of documented ABSL-4 animal.

Specific Job Related Duties:

  • Assists principal investigators, manager, and/or veterinarians in preparation and conduct of technical/surgical procedures, with a focus on services provided in a high containment environment (Animal Biosafety Levels 3 and 4).
  • Performs veterinary technical services such as tissue sampling, blood draws, anesthesia, and injections on multiple laboratory animal species per protocol.
  • Responsible for coordinating technical services and assigned technical staff, including protocol training with research staff.
  • Submits billing for services provided.
  • Assists in the development of and provides training and mentorship for technicians.
  • Maintains all animal and non-animal records and documents, including all paper and digital forms of records.
  • Provides daily husbandry care including feeding, sanitation, and enrichment for multiple laboratory animal species in a high containment environment.
  • Participates in daily health rounds and administers veterinary treatments as directed.
  • Maintains knowledge of biohazard and containment operations.
  • Monitor overall facility operations, including all security, safety, and maintenance standards for a high containment facility.
  • Provides aseptic surgical support, including equipment preparation and anesthetic monitoring.
  • Operates and maintains medical and surgical equipment.
  • Assists in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Maintains professional and collegial interpersonal skills with peers, subordinates, superiors, and guests.
  • Ensure all federal, state, and local regulatory statues, including facility SOPs, are followed regarding human animal care and use.
  • Maintains requirements to enter a high containment facility (Animal Biosafety Levels 3 and 4).
  • Adheres to internal controls established for department.
